What remains uncertain

METI's summary gives the location only as Kumamoto Prefecture, specific site to be decided; Kikuyo is stated by Jiji and Nikkei. The construction start date is not confirmed by TSMC or JASM.
The $10.8 billion is METI's figure for the facilities and equipment for which support is sought, not total investment; Jiji and Nikkei report total investment of at least $15.7 billion. The ¥645.15 billion is a maximum subsidy, reduced from about ¥732 billion in the earlier plan per Jiji, and METI is reported to be considering more aid.
Capacity of about 6,000 wafers a month is the certified plan; Nikkei reports the final scale depends on subsidies. Taiwan's economic ministry cited 15,000 wafers a month in April 2026. TSMC and JASM have not published a release on the change.
Sony Semiconductor Solutions, Denso and Toyota hold minority stakes in JASM per METI and TSMC; they are not listed as participants here. JASM Fab 1 is a separate, earlier facility.
